The journey of becoming a successful entrepreneur usually starts with the shifting of the mindset. This involves a lot of self-realization and the patience to understand one’s self in relation to outside factors. One of the biggest things that many entrepreneurs may have to face is moving from seeing problems as burdensome, and instead focusing on how it could be an opportunity to improve, learn, and grow. We like to call this the ‘Millionaire Mindset’.

Shifting into this mindset will take time, but offers many benefits. For starters, it reduces stress that typically comes with any new problem. This is due to the fact that you are choosing to view your problems in a more positive light that's less intimidating and burdensome. It’s like a huge weight being lifted off of your shoulders. Secondly, it allows you to view the problem for what it really is. Instead of becoming overwhelmed with the pressure of finding a solution as soon as possible, it allows you to break down and analyze the problem with a clearer mind. Lastly, it will help you grow as a professional and an individual. You’ll adapt to problem-solving and thus become more confident doing so.

This Millionaire Mindset doesn’t just come to one overnight. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to adopt this sort of mindset. The first step to achieving this is by being open to retraining your brain. You’re going to have to let go of old habits and be consistent with creating new ones.

Here are some mindfulness tips that work towards changing your mindset to see a challenge as an opportunity:

Understand that Problems Are Inevitable

There are two sides to the element of surprise. One is all about the good surprises like gifts or unexpected good news from your job, whereas the other is all about the bad, like a sudden late bill payment or watching the news and finding out that your favorite celebrity died. Our brains tend to lean more on the negative side when problems arise because of the probability that the solution could go one way or another (one being the desired outcomes and the other being a feared outcome).

Although it would be amazing to have everything go the right way, the reality of it is that problems will happen. They’re inevitable. So, it’s important that you learn to accept problems as a regular and completely unavoidable part of life. This will help you tackle them with more patience, understanding, and grace.

Refrain From Making Quick Assumptions

The first thoughts that come to our mind when we feel a problem arising can be all over the place. Learn to stop yourself before going down a black hole of thoughts. It’s important to note that we initially think about a problem, most likely is setting the tone for how we’re going to handle it. We understand that it is easier said than done, but let’s take a deeper look at how you can practice this.

Say you’re on the way to an important client meeting and all of a sudden you spill coffee all over your white outfit. Your first thought might be “I’m going to look a mess” or “This is going to make me late” or even “I’m going to lose this client because of how unprofessional I look.” These are all first thoughts that will immediately show the problem in a negative light; seeming stressful and burdensome. But in reality, it’s a neutral situation that is easily fixable with purchasing something else to wear, throwing any clothing items you have in your car over it, or simply explaining the situation to your client.

It’s natural to go straight into negative assumptions, but that’s where practice comes in. The more you do it, the better you get at it, the easier it is to overcome your problems.

Objectify the Problem

See the problem for what it really is. Oftentimes, our minds will race to the worst-case scenario, which we don’t know will happen. It’s important to separate exaggerated assumptions from real threats and the consequences of a problem. This will, again, help you understand the neutral situation you are in that is allowing you to take action.

Try making a list of all the worst-case scenarios that could happen. By doing so, you will realize that the problem isn’t as bad as it may seem. We tend to overwhelm ourselves by preparing for every negative outcome. In the modern world of so much to do and think of, this type of mental programming isn’t very helpful.

Focus on the Positives

After practicing the following mindfulness techniques, start looking at the positives. Each time you have a problem to solve, take time to remember what it is that you’re doing. Shifting your mindset is a big growth achievement that should be celebrated each step of the way. You’re improving every time you take a step back to analyze a problem and how you’re going to overcome it. As you continue to do this, you’ll start seeing problems in terms of the potential improvements they bring, rather than the actions they demand of you.

Problems will come and go throughout your professional and personal life, but that doesn’t mean you have to be fearful of them. If you train your mind to view these problems as opportunities for improvement, you’ll become better equipped at handling them efficiently, and with ease. Now, get your Millionaire Mindset on and start practicing these techniques right now!
