TheNew Year always brings about a powerful energy but often fizzles fast. So, let’s keep the momentum going. We look at resolutions/targets to accomplish in your personal life. But what about New Year’s resolutions/targets for your business? Are you giving your business the love and nurturing that it needs to succeed?

When it comes to business—like anything else in life—you’ll get out of it what you put into it. When you show your business love, it will love you back. Here are 8 tips to show your small business some much-needed love to keep it growing strong in 2020…and for many more years to come!

1. Make Connections.

Being a business owner means you have to be aware that nurturing the right relationships can be the key to unlocking business success. You never know what a random conversation could lead to for your company. Make some new connections by talking to one new person every day and remember to give them your business card!

2. Have a daily to-do list.

Nurturing your business means having a daily plan of action. What is on your to-do list and how do you set your intention for that workday? Having a physical list with items you can easily check off can be a great way to stay on top of your tasks and keep moving steadily forward towards reaching your long-term desires.

3. Think bigger picture.

Where do you want to be in 10 years? Having a solid long-term goal can help reduce the daily anxieties that arise when things go wrong in the short-term. Just keep in mind that solving short-term problems will help you piece together the bigger picture.

4. Try new initiatives.

Experiment with new ideas that you aren't sure will be successful. Whether it's a new marketing investment or a sales strategy, don't be afraid to make mistakes. Even if it's a shot in the dark—go for it! Part of learning is failing, and you won't learn until you try. All successful people are risk-takers…be bold!

5. Set short-term targets.

You may know that you want to be a $1 million company in the future, but what are the short-term steps to help you get there? How will you get to your first million? How will you overcome the daily obstacles or current employee challenges? I recommend using a journal to make note of the daily-, weekly- and monthly-targets you’ve set to help keep you moving steadily towards your long-term desires.

6. Find a mentor.

Keep in mind that you don't have to do this alone. Find a mentor or coach who has been in your shoes, who you can ask for advice and guidance. What other entrepreneurs do you look up to? If you don't know anyone, find your local small business bureau—they always have volunteer mentors who can advise you. There are wonderful resources for coaching found right here at www.ewomennetwork.com too!

7. Get an accountant.

Make sure you have an accountant who takes care of your taxes, bookkeeping and gives you tax advice. Don't do your taxes yourself. Find a professional who knows tax laws, but who can also save you money on the deductions you will want each year!

8. Set aside time to unplug.

As a business owner, it’s easy to eat, sleep and breathe work all the time. Set aside some time to relax, unwind, and enjoy a vacation—or even a staycation! It is so important to not think about work sometimes in order to avoid burnout. You will need to save all the energy you can in order to invest in your own business!

Business success doesn’t happen if you don’t work for it. Invest some time and energy into your business this year, and in no time, you’ll be living the truly extraordinary life you were destined for.
